So I’ve been working on an idea for a while now to use Splunk to give overall insight into the smooth, safe, and efficient operation of a complex environment like a modern international airport. My plan is to build a packaged offering that can quickly bring insight to any airport, similar to the bespoke Splunk environment that is used at Dubai Airport. Obviously, as one person working on their own in their spare time, I’m not going to get there overnight. However I have now begun, and have been using Luton Airport as my model. This evening, with a bit of help from the amazing OpenWeatherMap free API I have started building the weather dashboard. I have a long way to go, but thought I’d drop a little offering of what may come below.
I should probably point out that I am in no way affiliated with Luton Airport, and they do not know about this. I am simply using free data sources, as well as simulated data I generate, to create a template Splunk app as a technology demonstrator.
